Event Details

The Untermyer Gardens, created in 1917 by Welles Bosworth for Samuel Untermyer, was the finest Persian garden in the Western Hemisphere.  Among its many features, its Walled Garden was based on the concept of the Garden of Eden, a shared idea within Christianity, Judaism and Islam, which reflected Untermyer’s vision as a progressive Jew.  Left to the City of Yonkers after his death, the garden fell into poor condition and was little known until the establishment of the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy in 2011.  Conservancy President Stephen Byrns describes this history and the remarkable rebirth of these beautiful gardens.
