Irvington Historical Society’s newest exhibit, which explores the tenant farmers of Philipsburg Manor during the Revolutionary War, opens at the McVickar House on August 29th. There’s an opportunity to meet the curator Char Weigel on the 29th from 1-4pm.

During the Revolutionary War, the close-knit farming community of Philipsburg Manor was ripped apart by conflicting loyalties. This exhibit uncovers the experiences of the ordinary people — men and women, enslaved and free — who lived in the portion of Westchester’s “Neutral Ground” that includes modern-day Irvington and the surrounding Westchester County area. Drawing on historic maps, artifacts, documents, and new research, the exhibit paints a picture of how families and neighbors navigated the growing political and military divides of America’s first civil war. 

The exhibit will run through January 2027.
