What we know about enslavement in New Netherland/New York is constantly changing. The movement to revisit historic documents, to dig deeper into the stories we share, and to rethink what we thought we knew has led to a wave of new research and discoveries. Yet, many citizens are still unaware that slavery existed in the colony and early years of the state at all. In this presentation Lavada Nahon, Interpreter of African American History for the NYS Office of Parks, will share some of the recent information that has come to light and how it is shifting the landscape around enslavement in New York.
